Gas passes upward and liquid flows down through a column filled with packing to provide a large contact area between the liquid and gas for effective removal of gaseous contaminants from a gas stream. Counter- current flow insures that maximum efficiency will be obtained. Pressure drop in both the liquid and gas is low, so energy usage is low. Skid mounted package systems with a storage volume incorporated into the bottom of the tower, a recirculation pump, and piping reduce the amount of makeup liquid required. A system can also be provided.
