A new standardized on-site sodium hypochlorite generating system from Severn Trent Services meets the disinfection requirements for 12 to 36 lb/day or 5.4 to 16.3 kg/day of chlorine equivalent.
The ClorTec® Series MCT systems are supplied in a factory-tested, skid-mounted configuration and come with standard features including a high-efficiency electrolytic cell or cells, on-board water softener, integrated control panel/power supply and brine proportioning pump. Standardization of the ClorTec MCT system ensures easy ordering, and the system’s compact design allows for easy maintenance and system expansion.
For the disinfection of both drinking water and wastewater, on-site sodium hypochlorite generation is a proven, reliable and safe alternative treatment to chlorine gas and bulk sodium hypochlorite disinfection. The use of on-site generated sodium hypochlorite reduces the formation of disinfection byproducts and improves water quality. Generating disinfectant at the water treatment plant without the use of dangerous chemicals eliminates potential hazards associated with transportation and storage. Further, the 0.8% solution generated from the ClorTec system is non-hazardous, eliminating the need for process safety management training, risk management planning and purchasing and transportation of hazardous chemicals as defined by HazMat and OSHA requirements in the U.S.
The on-site generation process also is a cost-effective disinfection alternative. A pound of chlorine equivalent can be generated on site using salt, water and electricity for as low as 20 cents/lb or 33 Euro cents/kg of chlorine equivalent. Systems typically provide a return on initial investment within three to five years
ClorTec systems are suitable for potable water, wastewater, odor and corrosion control, cooling towers, oxidation and swimming pool disinfection applications. In the United States, systems are NSF Standard 61 and 50 certified and have ETV verification. In Europe, the systems are ATEX-compliant.
