Severn Trent De Nora Announces Availability of BALPURE Ballast Water Treatment System Technical Brochure

Severn Trent De Nora has announced the availability of a technical brochure on the BALPURE® ballast water treatment system. The brochure describes the advantages of the BALPURE system over other ballast water treatment systems; reviews the system’s certification process; details the system’s processes and operation; and provides specifications on the BALPURE system’s mechanical packaging options. BALPURE is a patented system that generates biocides, meters and analyzes the residual level of both biocides and neutralizing agents and logs the performance of the overall ballast water treatment system. With international, national, state and local environmental agencies worldwide taking action to regulate the discharge of ballast water arriving in ships coming from overseas ports, the BALPURE system has proven to be an effective, economical and high-capacity device to treat this water with no adverse effects on the environment. Third party testing of the BALPURE system has confirmed effluent quality that meets proposed International Maritime Organization ballast water standards.

The BALPURE system has achieved a number of certification milestones, including:
• In 2006, Severn Trent de Nora received a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for United States third party validation and recognition.
• In 2008, the company and a major United States vessel owner, SeaRiver Maritime, on which a BALPURE system was installed, applied for acceptance into the United States Coast Guard Shipboard Technology Evaluation Program.
• In 2007, the BALPURE system received certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and was classified as EX-proof.
