Since the first municipal installation in 2002, MicroDynamics™ microwave UV disinfection systems have been successfully operating across a number of applications.
Potable Water: Poland
In October 2005, two, single lamp module, closed vessel MicroDynamics™ microwave UV disinfection systems were installed at a municipality in Poland to assist in the de-activation of the Chlostridium pathogen. The Chlostridium pathogen is especially virulent in the winter when the water temperature is very low. The microwave powered lamps featured in the MicroDynamics system do not require a warm up period when powered on, they instantly provide disinfection and can maintain a constant output.
Since installation, the two systems have operated continuously. Test results have shown the system to be achieving log reductions in excess of design specifications.
Wastewater: Scotland
A wastewater treatment facility in Scotland needed to establish tertiary treatment to meet Bathing Water regulations. A MicroDynamics™ microwave UV disinfection system was installed in 2002 to provided disinfection during this advanced treatment stage.
The MicroDynamics system includes four 1 kW low pressure high-output lamps in a 316 stainless steel chamber. UV monitors ensure an optimum does is being provided from the system. The system has been effective at providing disinfection with UV transmittance levels as low as 45%. In every sense, the MicroDynamics system has successfully met disinfection requirements; even while using the original lamps.
